Following a lengthy standoff with a wanted bank robber Thursday, Seattle police entered the man’s Greenwood home and found him deceased from apparent self-inflicted wounds.
Detectives went to the man’s home in 9200 block of 3 Ave NW around 10:15 AM to arrest him on a warrant related to a February bank robbery in North Seattle. After knocking on the door of the suspect’s home, detectives briefly spoke with the man, who remained inside his home and refused to surrender.
Police negotiators arrived at the scene and worked to make contact with the suspect. After hours of no response from the man, SWAT officers entered the home around 3 PM to conduct a room-to-room search.
A SWAT team located the suspect inside the home, and found he had sustained serious self-inflicted injuries.
Police immediately called for medics, who declared the man deceased at the scene.
The King County Medical Examiner will take custody of the man’s body and determine a final cause of death. SPD Crime Scene Investigators and homicide detectives are also conducting an investigation into the man’s apparent suicide.
