Officers arrested a sleepy thief in a Capitol Hill parking garage Sunday morning after some concerned witnesses spotted him sleeping in a running vehicle.
Witnesses called 911 around 8 AM to report a man who was sleeping in a truck and left the engine running. Dispatchers ran the plate and discovered the truck was reported stolen.
Officers arrived at and found the driver and truck slowly pulling out of a garage in the 1400 block of Broadway. Officer Brad Devore stopped the truck and took the 36-year-old suspect into custody. The man said he had just purchased the truck from a “friend”, but couldn’t describe the seller. Officer Devore searched the truck and found additional items inside the truck that were potentially stolen, including an ID and credit card belonging to a victim of a car prowl just days earlier.
The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of possession of stolen property and an $80,000 warrant.
