Officers arrested a burglar in West Seattle early Wednesday after a woman awoke around 5 AM and found the suspect standing in her living room.
The victim was in her South Delridge apartment in the 7900 block of Delridge Way SW when she heard the sound of keys jiggling in her living room. The victim went to investigate and found a 21-year-old man standing in her home.
“My name is Caleb,” the man said slurring his words, “I live next door.”
Shortly after the man walked out of the woman’s apartment, she noticed her purse, cell phone and keys were missing.
Officer Ryan Blake arrived and found the man behind a nearby building, carrying a set of keys and standing near a purse. Then man tried to run from officers, but was unable to navigate his way over a fence. Officers arrested the suspect and found the victim’s wallet and phone in the man’s pockets. Police then learned his name is not actually Caleb, and he does not, in fact, live next door to the victim.
Officers returned the woman’s belongings and booked the suspect into King County Jail for burglary.
