SPD Finds New Homes for Dorm Room Furniture, Benefitting Local Charities

When Seattle Police Detective John Lewitt learned University of Washington’s McCarty Hall was being demolished, he wasn’t going to let the furniture go down with it. With his help, the University of Washington will be doing a no cost transfer of more than 200 bunk beds and 300 wardrobe closets from the dorm to benefit Union Gospel Mission, rehab facilities, women’s shelters and other non-profit organizations.

Tomorrow morning, Detective Lewitt and dozens of SPD, student and church volunteers will come together to deliver these beds and closets to 10 deserving charities. Thanks to generous donors, the group has received discounted truck and dolly rentals. Seattle Police Officers’ Guild is also covering some of the logistical costs.
