SPD officers interrupted a burglar’s shvitz Monday afternoon after K9 Blitz found him hiding in a hot tub.
Two witnesses called 911 around 3 PM after hearing a home security alarm ringing in the 2400 block of East Helen Street. After spotting two men leaving the home, both of the witnesses went so far as to follow the suspects and snap pics of them on their cell phones before calling 911.
The men fled from the home before officers arrived, but police, suspect photos in-hand, searched the neighborhood until they found them near 25th Avenue and E. Howell Street. Officers caught up to one of the suspects, a 20-year-old man, but lost track of the second. An SPD K9 team, Officer Jake Briskey and Blitz, joined the search and followed the second burglar’s scent to a hot tub behind a home in the 2500 block of E. Denny Way.
After hearing Blitz’s barking, the 18-year-old suspect climbed out of the full hot tub and surrendered to police. Officers found he also had two warrants for possession of a stolen vehicle.
Police recovered the laptop the suspects had stolen during their break-in and booked both men into the King County Jail for investigation of burglary.
