Officers arrested two men early this morning after shots were fired downtown and a brief pursuit ended at I-90 and Rainier Avenue South.
Shortly before 3:00 am, an officer heard shots fired near the area of 1st Avenue and Cherry Street. The officer was about a block away and saw an individual running from that corner and then jump into a waiting silver BMW. The BMW sped away. The officer broadcast the suspect description and direction of travel for the BMW while she went to check on the intersection. It does not appear that anyone was injured.
Officers from other precincts saw the BMW as it got off I-5 onto I-90. Officers briefly pursued the BMW as it took the Rainier Avenue exit. The BMW failed to negotiate the turn at the bottom of the ramp and collided with the curb, disabling the car. The two occupants ran from the car. Officers caught the driver while the passenger fled into “The Jungle,” a wooded area beneath the freeway. K9 responded and located the second suspect hiding in a tree. The driver, a 31-year-0ld male, was later booked into the King County Jail for Eluding. The 27-year-old passenger was booked on multiple outstanding warrants. The BMW was impounded pending a search warrant.
Officers located two spent shell casings back at 1st and Cherry. The Gang Unit responded and will handle the follow up investigation.
