SPD Arson investigators are investigating after a man’s tent was set ablaze as he slept at a Beacon Hill, following a dispute over a card game.
Officers responded to an encampment in the 2100 block of South Hill Street around 11:45 PM Tuesday night after a man called 911 to report that someone had set his tent on fire. The victim said he had been sleeping in the tent at the time with another person. Neither of them were injured.
The victim told police he had been playing cards with a group of men earlier in the evening when one man in the group accused them of cheating and threatened to burn down the victim’s tent.
The victim told officers he went to bed and later awoke to find his tent was on fire. He quickly extinguished the fire with a can of beer.
Officers weren’t immediately able to find any witnesses to the arson.
SPD’s Arson/Bomb Squad is investigating.
