A 28-year-old woman is receiving a medical evaluation at Harborview Medical Center after she stole a dinghy from a West Seattle beach and then boarded a second boat before she was arrested by police.
Around 12:30 PM, police received a call from a man, who reported a woman had rowed out to and boarded his 24-foot boat anchored off the 4100 block of Beach Drive Southwest.
SPD Harbor and Southwest Precinct officers took to the water to contact the woman who, while on the 24-foot vessel, reportedly smashed a window with a piece of wood, blew an air horn, and threw a lit flare into the water.
The Seattle Fire Department and Coast Guard joined Seattle police at the scene as SPD Crisis Response officers used their intervention training to try and convince the woman to surrender.
Officers were eventually able to board the boat and take the woman into custody. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center for an evaluation.
Police were not immediately aware of any connection between the woman and the boat’s owner.
