Officers on patrol last night observed a man breaking into a parked car at 10th Avenue South and South Dearborn. This is an area of increased car prowl activity and focused car prowl emphasis. The man was arrested following a short foot pursuit.
On August 18th, at about 8:15 pm, Officers Harmon and Fritsch were on patrol when they saw a man standing next to a parked car near 10th and S. Dearborn. Officers observed a large hole in the driver’s side window. As officers got out of their patrol car to investigate, the man began to walk away. Officers saw that the passenger side window was also smashed out. The officers ordered the man to stop, but the suspect began to run.
Officers pursued the man for several minutes until he fell into the bushes and was taken into custody without incident. The 31-year-old male told officers he ran because he was afraid and high.
A backpack belonging to the suspect was located next to the parked car. The suspect was later booked into King County Jail for vehicle prowl and obstructing.
