Officers Recover Car Prowled Items From Man Found Camping Along I-5

After scaling a barbed wire fence next to Interstate 5 early Wednesday, SPD officers contacted a man camping next to an overpass and recovered items stolen in two separate car prowls this summer.

Around 6:45 AM, Officers Jamison Maehler and Christopher Couet entered the fenced-off area overlooking I-5 near 9th Avenue and Convention Place and contacted the man, who had sent up camp behind a locked, barbed wire-lined gate, marked with ‘no trespassing’ signs.

Officers found the 43-year-old man had a felony narcotics warrant, and discovered he was carrying a large silver and diamond ring, a pair of watches, and two different social security cards. Officers checked the names on the social security cards, and found they had been taken in two carprowls–one in downtown Seattle in June and another in Queen Anne in August. Watches and jewelry were also reportedly taken in the car prowls.

Officers booked the man into the King County Jail for the warrant and contacted the car prowl victims to return their stolen property.
