Once upon a time, around 6 PM on Tuesday, a family of Lake Union residents returned to their houseboat in the 2100 block of Westlake Avenue North and found someone had broken into their home.
As they walked through the vessel, they found someone had been eating their food.
Someone had been drinking their liquor, the family discovered.
Someone had even used their shower.
And when they walked into their bedroom, they found someone had been sleeping in their bed…and was still there!
The man–described as 5’9, clean shaven and, would you believe it, blonde–woke up and claimed to be the owner of the vessel, but soon fled the houseboat onto Westlake Avenue.
The family called SPD Harbor Patrol, who raced to the scene with patrol officers.
Officer Mike Virgilio and Amy Kagelmacher arrested the suspect in the 1700 block of Dexter Ave N. a short time later.
They found the 38-year-old man was wearing one victim’s jacket, and had their wedding ring in his pocket.
Police booked him into the King County Jail for investigation of burglary.
