A trail of broken glass and blood led police to a stolen safe stowed in an elevator, and a burglar on a Pioneer Square rooftop, following a break-in at a bar early this morning.
Around 5:30 AM, a security guard called 911 after finding shattered bottles, upturned plants and open doors inside a business near 1st Avenue South and South Washington Street.
Officers searched the building and found a number of stolen items, including a small safe, stacked in an elevator. A short time later, police spotted a 29-year-old man peering over the roof of the building. Officers ordered the man to exit the building, and took him into custody.
The man told police he’d gone into the building to get out of the rain, and had run to the roof after hearing a “commotion” inside. Police obtained video footage of the man inside the business, and officers also noticed he had a fresh cut on his hand, which seemingly accounted for the blood they’d found inside the property.
Officers booked the 29-year-old into the King County Jail for investigation of burglary.
