Officers Nab Car Thief After Early Morning Chase

Officers arrested a man early Thursday morning after the stolen car he was driving gave up before he did.

Plain clothes officers patrolling Martin Luther King Jr Way S. and S. 129th St spotted a stolen Mitsubishi Gallant driving in the area just after midnight today.  The officers followed the stolen car as they waited for uniformed officers to arrive.

The 19-year-old suspect, realizing he was being followed, piloted the car onto I-5 only to exit again at the Swift/Albro ramp.  The suspect sped through the residential area without stopping for red lights or the marked police cars that were now hot on his trail.

The suspect’s stolen car eventually broke causing the hood to release and cover the windshield.  The suspect slowed his vehicle and exited leaving the car in gear while he ran away.  The car slowly rolled into a fence at 39 Ave S and S. Othello St. stopping it from going any further.

Officers chased the suspect on foot and caught him in the 4200 block of S Myrtle St, taking him into custody without further incident. Officers booked the suspect into King County Jail for vehicle theft and eluding.
