Officers Arrest Suspect Following Shooting in Rainier Valley

At approximately 1:35 Saturday morning officers responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the 3700 block of South Hudson Street.  Witnesses reported seeing a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt firing a handgun at a group of men standing next to a silver sedan.  As the shots were being fired, the men got into the car and drove off.  The man with the gun fled on foot. An officer saw a silver sedan speeding northbound on Rainier Avenue South near South McClellan Street.  The officer pursued the car until it pulled into a driveway near 20th Avenue South and South Lane Street.  The driver of the car got out and fled on foot.  The passenger remained in the car.  Officers discovered the passenger had a gunshot wound and that the sedan had been struck by gunfire.  Seattle Fire was called to the scene to provide care for the passenger.  A K-9 team responded to the scene and located the driver hiding a short distance away.  A handgun was found near the driver.  The male suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Gang Unit detectives responded and assisted with the investigation.  The suspect driver was interviewed and later booked into the King County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm.  The passenger was transported to the hospital for treatment of his non life-threatening injury.  Gang detectives will continue to handle the follow up investigation.
