Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad are investigating after a 78-year-old woman was struck by a driver Wednesday morning on Rainier Avenue. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
At approximately 8:40 am, a 35-year-old male driver of a 2004 Lincoln Town Car was traveling eastbound on South Walden Street and began a right turn to proceed southbound on Rainier Avenue South. At the same time, a 78-year-old woman was crossing Rainier Avenue on foot within a marked crosswalk and was struck by the driver. Seattle Fire medics responded and transported the woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver was evaluated at the scene by officers for any signs of impairment. None were found. This remains an active and on-going investigation.
