Negotiators Convince Armed Woman to Surrender Following West Seattle Knife Attack

A 26-year-old woman was arrested Monday in West Seattle after she slashed another woman with a kitchen knife, leading to a brief standoff with police.

Officers were called to the 4100 block of SW College Street around 12:45 PM for a report of an assault with a knife. Police found the suspect about a block away. She was still carrying her knife when officers contacted her, and refused to drop it, so police created a perimeter to prevent her from leaving the area and called for negotiators.

Crisis response team officers and negotiators responded to the scene and eventually convinced the woman to drop the knife, though she refused to step away from the knife.

Just before 1:30 PM, the woman surrendered to police and was taken into custody. She was booked into the King County Jail for assault.

The victim, who told police she does not know the suspect, was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
