Two officers were walking out front of the West Precinct at 8th Avenue and Virginia Street around 8:30 this morning when a cab pulled up to the curb. The driver waived the officers over and said his passenger was refusing to pay his $35 fare.
Officers spoke with the passenger, who confirmed he was unable to pay the fare, and offered him the opportunity to call a family member to help pay his bill. When that failed, officers asked the man to step out of the car and checked his ID.
The officers discovered the man was wanted on a $200,000 felony domestic violence warrant and arrested him. Police also found a gun on the floor of the cab where the man had been sitting. He was also carrying an empty holster at the time of his arrest. The man is a convicted felon and cannot legally possess firearms.
Police booked the man into the King County Jail for a firearms violation and his felony warrant.
