Detectives Investigating South Lake Union Fatality Crash

Detectives are investigating after a man was killed in a crash Thursday evening that involved a bus.

Witnesses called 911 just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday to report a collision between a bus and pedestrian in the South Lake Union neighborhood. Officers arrived and with the help of the Seattle fire department, began attempting first aid on the 43-year-old male victim.  The medics were unsuccessful and the man was declared dead at the scene.

Witnesses told detectives the bus had been traveling eastbound on Blanchard Street at Westlake Avenue. They said the pedestrian was crossing Westlake from West to East when the bus turned and struck the pedestrian.  The driver of the bus continued on not knowing they had struck the man.  Officers interviewed the driver and a drug recognition expert evaluated the driver but no signs of impairment were found.

The Traffic Collision Unit will investigate this crash further and work with the Prosecutor’s Office if charges are filed.
