Officers searching Pioneer Square for a warrant suspect Wednesday night chased down and arrested a felon previously convicted of murder, who was caught carrying a stolen handgun.
Police were searching near 6th Avenue and Yesler Way around 10 PM for a man wanted on a narcotics warrant when the spotted a man they thought was their suspect. The officers approached the man who, when asked for his name, provided one officers believed was fake. The 39-year-old suspect then ran away from officers but gave up a few blocks later. Officers searched the suspect and found a stolen .380 handgun in a holster on the man’s hip. Officers checked the man’s name and discovered that he wasn’t the person they had been searching for, but he had been convicted of murder and is prohibited by state law from possessing a firearm.
Officers booked the suspect into King County jail for a firearms violation.
