A 25-year-old man broke into nine rooms at an International District hotel, attacked a security guard and made off with several paintings early this morning before he was arrested by police.
Officers were called to the 600 block of Main Street around 4 AM after receiving a report of a man ransacking hotel rooms. Officers arrived just in time to spot the man casually walking out of the front door of the hotel while carrying two paintings. They quickly chased him down and took him into custody.
Police spoke to the hotel’s night watchman, who had some difficulty recounting details of the incident. Police found indications he may have been assaulted by the suspect and suffered a head injury. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Officers recovered a number of hotel room keys from the suspect’s backpack and booked him into the King County Jail for burglary.
