Shooting Suspect Surrenders After Standoff Shuts Down Lake City Way

Officers arrested a man in the Lake City neighborhood Monday morning after he fired shots from his apartment balcony.

Officers were called to the 11000 block of Lake City Way Northeast just after 5:30 a.m. for reports of possible fireworks in the area. Police arrived and heard what they believed to be gunshots coming from an apartment building. Officers confirmed their beliefs when witnesses said a resident had been firing a handgun off a balcony. Officers surrounded the building and began attempts to make contact with the 36-year-old suspect.

Hostage Negotiators and SWAT team members responded to the scene and took over attempts to contact the man as Traffic units closed Lake City Way Northeast to limit any risk to the public.

After six hours of attempts to coax the man out of his apartment, the suspect exited the building and surrendered to officers.

Seattle Fire Department Medics responded to the scene and took the man to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation.

Officers will book the suspect into King County Jail for reckless endangerment once he has been cleared by doctors.
