Online Ad Leads Police to Man’s Stolen Bike

The South Precinct’s Anti-Crime Team recovered a man’s stolen bicycle after he found it posted for sale online.

Yesterday, the man contacted police and said he’d found his bike–a rare Willier bicycle, valued at $6,000–posted on Offerup.com.

The man had previously contacted police on October 2nd, after the bike was taken from his condo complex in West Seattle.

South Precinct’s Anti-Crime Team contacted the person who’d placed the ad and set up a meeting. They were scheduled to meet a 46-year-old woman at a motor home in the 400 block of South Dawson street, but instead found her riding around the neighborhood on the bicycle and arrested her.

Police returned the bike to the victim and interviewed the woman about where she had gotten the bicycle, and released her from the scene. Detectives are still pursuing leads in the case and working to identify the person who initially stole the victim’s bicycle.
