Officers Working in SODO Arrest Fleeing Auto Thief

Two officers working an emphasis shift yesterday afternoon located a stolen car and arrested the suspect after he fled on foot in the SODO neighborhood.

On Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:45 pm, Officers Powell and Caspersen were working an emphasis patrol in the area of 1st Avenue South and South Walker Street.  They observed a black Ford Focus with stolen license plates.  As they turned their patrol vehicle around, the suspect driving the Focus pulled into a business parking lot and ran from the car.   The officers chased the 19-year-old male suspect on foot and took him into custody a few blocks away.  The suspect had an outstanding felony auto theft warrant for his arrest.  In addition to having the stolen plates on the vehicle, the Focus was also listed as a stolen vehicle out of King County.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Task Force met the officers at the South Precinct and interviewed the suspect.  Following the interview, the suspect was booked into the King County Jail.

Detectives will handle the follow-up investigation.
