East Precinct Captain Promoted to Brigadier General in Washington State National Guard

The Seattle Police Department would like to congratulate East Precinct Captain Bryan Grenon on his promotion to Brigadier General in the Washington State National Guard. In his new position as the Land Component Commander, he will be responsible for training and readiness of over 6,000 soldiers.

“It is an honor to work alongside General Grenon who has dedicated his life to the service of both his Country and City,” Chief Carmen Best said.

The Seattle Police Department is privileged to have General Grenon as the East Precinct commander where he will continue to work with the community to proactively solve problems as they are identified.

Captain Grenon joined the Seattle Police Department in May of 1992 and spent the early part of his career as a patrol, mountain bike, and SWAT officer mostly in the West Precinct.  As a sergeant, he served in the West and East Precincts as a patrol and mountain bike sergeant. He also served as an acting lieutenant in charge of the Data Driven Unit until promotion to Lieutenant in 2013.    As a lieutenant, he served in the East Precinct as a watch commander and as operations lieutenant. Captain Grenon was promoted to Captain in October 2016. He assumed command of the Education and Training Unit which is responsible for all aspects of training for the approximately 1,400 sworn members of the department. Grenon has been the East Precinct captain since February 2018

He attended Washington State University where he was awarded an Army ROTC Scholarship. Upon graduating in May of 1989, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery. He joined the Washington Army National Guard in 1990.

His assignments include G3, Army Staff Element JFHQ, Commander, 81st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Company Fire Support Officer, D Company, 3-161 Infantry; Platoon Leader, C Battery, 2-146 Field Artillery; Assistant Brigade FSO, 81st ABCT; Battalion S2, 2-146 Field Artillery; Battery Commander, A Battery 2-146 Field Artillery; Assistant S3, 2-146 Field Artillery; Operations Officer, 2-146 Field Artillery; Executive Officer, 2-146 Field Artillery; Fire Support Coordinator, 81st ABCT; Battalion Commander, 2-146 Field Artillery; Brigade Executive Officer, 96th Troop
Command;  COL Grenon has twice deployed with the 81st ABCT in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit; Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; GWOT Expeditionary Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal: Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Army Service Ribbon: Overseas Service Ribbon; Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon: Army Meritorious Unit Award: Army Superior Unit Award: and the Order of Saint Barbara, U.S. Army Field Artillery.

General Grenon has Bachelor Degrees from Washington State University and Western Washington University. He also has a Master in Public Administration from the University of Washington and a Master in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College, Carlisle, PA.
