Man Arrested For Brandishing 25-Foot Pipe

Police arrested a 46-year-old man after a two-hour standoff in a downtown alleyway after he brandished a 25-foot drain pipe at a man who was trying to recycle some boxes and barricaded himself behind a garbage can.

Around 6:30 pm on Monday, police received a report that the man was in an alley near 2nd Avenue and Yesler Way, wielding a 25-foot pipe and refusing to let people pass through.

Officers approached the suspect and explained that he could not chase people out of the alley at pipe-point. The man said he believed he could, because he owned the alley. The man does not have an ownership claim to the alley.

The man began moving toward officers, screaming at them and ordering them to “leave [his] alley.”

Police negotiators arrived on scene and spoke to the man for approximately two hours until he eventually dropped the pipe and was taken into custody.

Officers booked the man into the King County Jail for harassment.
