Detectives Investigating Central District Shooting

UPDATE 5/16: Gang Unit detectives arrested a 25-year-old Renton man at his apartment on Wednesday, May 15th in connection with the shooting. Police booked the man into the King County Jail for investigation of assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Detectives from the Gang Unit are conducting the investigation following a shooting that occurred at 23rd Avenue and Cherry Street last night.  An adult female was struck by gunfire and is being treated at the hospital for a non life-threatening injury.

At approximately 8:30 pm on Friday, May 3rd, East Precinct officers responded to reports of shots fired near 23rd and Cherry.  As officers were responding to that location, the victim had fled in her own vehicle, flagging down an ambulance several blocks away.  The victim was then transported to the hospital.

Investigators learned that the victim was at the gas station getting gas when gunfire was exchanged between several people and vehicles.  It appears that the victim struck by gunfire was uninvolved in the dispute and was the unintended target.

Officers recovered shell casings at the gas station and just north of the intersection.  This remains an active and on-going investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Seattle Police.
