A 57-year-old woman was injured Monday after her 16-year-old grandson stabbed her with a machete in a Rainier Beach home and then fled into Lake Washington, where he was later found dead.
Shortly after noon, the victim called police and reported that her grandson had stabbed her inside her home in the 9700 block of 57th Avenue South, and fled.
Medics transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.
Police conducted a K9 track and search with the assistance of officers and deputies from Renton, Tukwila the King County Sheriff’s Office, including the Guardian One helicopter.
The search led police to the 9800 block of Rainier Avenue South, where officers received information the suspect may have entered Lake Washington.
Officers on land and SPD’s Harbor Patrol conducted a search near the shoreline and, at 1:36 PM, located the suspect deceased, underwater.
The King County Medical Examiner will take custody of the teen’s body and determine the cause and manner of death.
