Man Breaks Windows, Attempts to Escape on a Pedicab, Threatens Person With Knife, Gets Arrested

Police arrested a man after he was spotted breaking windows in the Chinatown International District before he attempted to escape on a pedicab.

Witnesses called 911 to report a man was breaking businesses’ windows in the 500 block of 5 Ave South at 12:30 am Friday morning. As officers entered the area the witness told dispatchers the suspect caught a ride on a pedicab and left the area.

Sgt David Adams was searching the area when he spotted a pedicab driver holding a slab of cement. Sgt Adams spoke with the driver who said his fare threatened to stab him, causing the driver to pick up the cement in an effort to defend himself. The driver said the suspect then fled on foot. Additional officers flooded the area found and arrested the 58-year-old suspect a block away.

Officers booked the man into King County Jail for investigation of property damage as well as harassment.
