Police Continue To Investigate After Car Thief Eludes Capture

UPDATE: Several hours after this original call, the suspect was located and arrested in the 8000 block of Interlake Avenue North.  The 21-year-old male was taken into custody without incident and later booked into jail on outstanding warrants.  Detectives will work with prosecutors on filing charges on any new additional crimes.  This remains an active and on-going investigation.

North Precinct officers attempted to arrest an auto thief in the 8200 block of Aurora Avenue N just before 6 p.m. tonight.

The thief fled in the stolen car, causing at least one motor vehicle collision, before getting out and running away.

Officers flooded the area, setting up a perimeter on surrounding streets.

King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian One helicopter responded and watched from the sky, while SPD K9 officers tracked the suspect on the ground.

After an extensive and exhaustive search, officers determined the suspect had eluded capture.
