Bicycle Burglar Arrested in Columbia City

Officers arrested a 37-year-old man early this morning after he attempted to steal a bicycle from a secured storage locker inside the garage of a Columbia City apartment building.

At approximately 5:45 am South Precinct officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress inside the secured parking garage in the 4700 block of 32nd Avenue South.  The caller stated that two men were inside the garage, attempting to use a metal grinder to cut the bicycle lock attached to the bike.

Officers arrived and located the damaged bicycle lock and another damaged locked inside the secured garage.  Officers reviewed surveillance video footage inside the building that depicted the two suspects inside the garage attempting to cut the locks.  The suspects then left the building and headed toward the Columbia City Station.

Officers located and detained one of the suspects at the Mount Baker light rail station, just one stop away.  The suspect was positively identified and arrested, and later booked into the King County Jail.

Detectives are actively searching for the other suspect.
