Detectives Seize 30 Firearms From Man’s Vehicle After He Violates Domestic Violence Order

Detectives from the Domestic Violence Firearms Surrender Unit seized 30 firearms from a man, who had been arrested earlier in the month for domestic violence assault.  The man had signed a declaration in court that he no longer had access to any firearms, but had in fact hidden them in the trunk of his car.

In early November police responded to a residence in the Ravenna neighborhood for a domestic violence incident.  The 70-year-old male suspect was arrested and booked into jail for misdemeanor domestic violence assault.

During his initial court appearance, the man told the court he had given the firearms to his brother and signed a declaration that he no longer had possession of any firearms.

The detective assigned the case later received information that the suspect had removed the guns from his residence and placed them in the trunk of his personal vehicle.

The detective obtained a search warrant from a judge and, on Thursday morning, went to the man’s residence to speak with him.  The man acknowledged that he had signed the declaration saying he was no longer in possession of any firearms.  Detectives impounded his vehicle and had it towed to the processing room.  Detectives located thirty firearms, twenty four shotguns and rifles, and six handguns in the trunk.

Detectives placed the firearms into evidence and will continue to work with the prosecutors on the case.
