Officers Arrest Bank Robber After He Attempts to Flee in Cab, Bus

North Precinct officers responded to a reported bank robbery Wednesday afternoon in Ballard, and took the suspect into custody after he attempted to flee by jumping into a cab and later a Metro bus.

At about 1:20 pm officers responded to the bank in the 6100 block of 15th Avenue NW. Following the robbery, the suspect was seen getting into a taxi cab a block north of the bank. One of the first arriving officers spotted the cab leaving the area and called for additional units as he continued to follow the cab.

The suspect got out of the cab and began running on foot, pursued by officers. The suspect managed to board a Metro bus, briefly, but was taken into custody in the 2100 block of Dexter Avenue.

The suspect was positively identified as the correct suspect by witnesses. Robbery detectives responded to the scene and will handle the follow up investigation. The 55-year-old man was interviewed and later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery.

This remains an active and on-going investigation.
