Six adults, five males and one female, were arrested this afternoon after one person assaulted officers and the others attempted to interfere with the arrest of that individual during a protest on Sunday afternoon.
Officers were monitoring a march/demonstration that began at the Arboretum and was scheduled to conclude at Myrtle Edwards Park. When the march reached Fairview Avenue North and North Republican Street, officers established a bicycle line to prevent the marchers from accessing the freeway. A group of marchers attempted to break through the bicycle line. One person assaulted an officer and officers attempted to arrest that individual. As officers were attempting to make the arrest, other individuals attempted to prevent the officers from doing so.
Officers deployed pepper spray, and arrested a total of six people at the scene. The Seattle Fire Department was called to the scene to treat those affected by the pepper spray, but medical aid was declined by those affected.
The march ended at that location, and participants eventually left. The six individuals were transported to the West Precinct and later booked into the King County Jail.
