Gang Unit detectives are handling the investigation following a shooting that occurred Tuesday evening near 3rd and Yesler. An 18-year-old male was transported to Harborview Medical Center with non life-threatening gunshot wounds to the hand and leg.
On Tuesday, just after 7:30 pm, West Precinct officers responded to the 500 block of 3rd Avenue for reports of gunshots being heard and a possible victim on the ground. Officers arrived along with Seattle Fire and located the victim on the sidewalk near 3rd and Yesler. His injuries were to the hand and calf. Seattle Fire treated him at the scene and then transported to HMC for further treatment. A 64-year-old male standing nearby stated that he too may have been struck by shrapnel but he was examined at the scene by medics and did not require any additional treatment.
Officers located narcotics and a handgun and shell casings near 3rd and Yesler. Those items were recovered and entered into evidence. This remains an active and on-going investigation.
