Detectives Investigating Shooting in South Seattle

Detectives are investigating after a 41-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting in the New Holly neighborhood in South Seattle.

At approximately 9:40 pm Monday night, South Precinct officers were on patrol when they heard shots fired near 30th Avenue South and South Willow Street and saw a vehicle with bullet damage. Officers activated their emergency equipment but the vehicle began to drive off quickly on South Willow Street.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle a block away and detained the male driver, the sole occupant of the car. No weapons were found inside the car, but the 18-year-old driver exhibited signs of impairment. He was later arrested and processed for DUI and booked into the King County Jail. Police are still investigating the 18-year-old’s connection to the shooting.

Officers recovered a number of spent shell casings in the street but did not find any injured victims, although one residence and one parked car were damaged by gunfire.

A short time later, officers learned a 41-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest had been dropped off at Harborview Medical Center. East Precinct officers and detectives responded to the hospital to gather additional information.

This remains an active and on-going investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Seattle Police Department.
