Felon Arrested with Firearm in South Seattle

Officers arrested a 26-year-old man early Monday morning after it was discovered he was in possession of a gun, which he is prohibited from possessing.

At approximately 3:30 Monday morning, officers patrolling near Beacon Avenue South and South Myrtle Street saw a vehicle that had recently eluded officers. In prior interactions with officers, the driver was observed with a handgun in his lap.

Officers stopped the vehicle, a Toyota Camry, with no license plates, near Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Holly Street. The driver, the 26-year-old suspect, was contacted and provided officers his driver’s license. Officers checked the name and discovered he had a suspended license and was listed as a violent offender.

Officers separated the man from his vehicle. A handgun was observed on the floorboard of the driver’s seat inside the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

A records check showed the suspect has a robbery conviction, and is therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm. The male was later booked into the King County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm. The Camry was impounded pending a search warrant.
