Detectives arrested a 40-year-old man Friday after he shot and wounded another man during a dispute Wednesday afternoon in Othello Park.
Witnesses began calling 911 at 2:30pm on May 13th to report shots fired at the Othello playfield.
Officers responding to the park and spotted a vehicle leaving the area and contacted the occupants. Officers found a passenger with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg inside the vehicle.
Detectives learned the injured victim had gone to the park that afternoon to meet with the 40-year-old suspect and address a prior dispute. While the men were in the park, the 40-year-old man pulled out a handgun and began pistol-whipping the victim. The victim then drew his own handgun and the men exchanged gunfire. The victim fled the scene after sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg and was contacted by officers before he was transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured in the incident.
SPD detectives were able to identify the 40-year-old suspect and took him into custody after locating him Friday. Police booked him into the King County Jail for assault, robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.
