Officers arrested a 29-year-old man early this morning in the University District for felony assault and robbery after he seriously injured a 41-year-old man following a confrontation and then stole his wallet.
Around 3:30 am, officers from the North Precinct responded to reports of an unconscious man lying in the intersection at NE 50th Street and University Way NE. Additional callers stated that another male was standing over the man, hitting and kicking the unconscious man in the head.
Officers arrived and located the 41-year-old victim and contacted and arrested the 29-year-old man, who stated he was the one who assaulted the victim.
After advising the suspect of his rights, he told officers that he was standing at the bus stop when the victim approached him and began “bothering him.” The suspect said the 41-year-old man had first struck him in the face with a metal object, leading him to assault the victim. The suspect reportedly continued assaulting the 41-year-old man, kicking him in the head as he lay unconscious on the ground. Police searched the suspect and discovered he had also taken the victim’s wallet.
Officers booked the 29-year-old man into the King County Jail for felony assault and robbery. Detectives are handling the follow up investigation.
