Arrest Made in Deadly Aurora Motel Fire

A 24-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night in North Seattle for the arson at the Hillside Motel earlier this month, which resulted in the deaths of two people and injured four others.

Early morning on Monday, July 13th, the Seattle Fire Department and Seattle Police responded to a large fire at the Hillside Motel in the 2400 block of Aurora Avenue North. Seattle Police assisted SFD with traffic control and collected evidence from the scene while the fire department treated the multiple victims and transported them to Harborview Medical Center.

Initially the Arson/Bomb Squad assumed the follow up investigation. Detectives were assisted by an agent from the ATF. On July 17th, one of the victims, a 32-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries. The investigation was then turned over to the homicide unit. On July 21st, a 24-year-old man succumbed to his injuries. The King County Medical Examiner ruled both deaths as homicides.

Detectives identified a suspect during their investigation and on Tuesday night, just before 10:00 PM, located and arrested the 24-year-old man in North Seattle. He was interviewed by detectives and then booked into the King County Jail for murder, assault, and arson. The other four victims are still receiving treatment for their injuries.

This remains an active and on-going investigation.
