UPDATE 8/12/20: This afternoon, Harbor Unit officers recovered a woman’s body from Lake Washington near Seward Park. The body was turned over to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. Officers continue to search the lake.

ORIGINAL POST 8/10/20:

Officers with the Harbor Unit assisted with the search of two individuals in two separate incidents yesterday on Lake Washington. As of this posting, neither individual has been located and the search continues.

The first call occurred Sunday at 5:30 PM just north of Andrews Bay. A group of people were on a pontoon boat when they decided to take a swim. According to witnesses, one person, a male in his twenties, appeared to be in distress. Four people swam to the male and attempted to bring him back to the boat, but he slipped through their grasp and went underwater.

Divers from Seattle Police, Seattle Fire Department and Mercer Island Police Department responded and performed a number of searches but did not locate the male. The search will resume Monday morning.

The second incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 8:40 PM just east of Seward Park. Witnesses reported that a female passenger onboard a ski boat fell overboard into the water. The operator of the boat jumped in and attempted to rescue her, but stated that he was unable to do so.

Patrol officers and Harbor arrived and began a search. Seattle Fire also arrived and divers from both SPD and SFD entered the water to search. A Coast Guard helicopter also assisted.

After checking for two hours, the search was suspended due to darkness and rough waters. The area was marked, and divers will resume their search Monday morning.
