#2020-244822/South Precinct/First Watch:
On 8-20-2020 at 0313 hours, officers responded to assist Seattle Fire on a structure fire, believed to have been intentionally set. This is believed to have been committed by a serial arsonist that has been operating in the Rainier corridor from I-90 to the 3800 block. There is currently no suspect information.
#2020-244866/South Precinct/First Watch:
On 8-20-20 at 0555hours, officers responded to a large fire at a multi-unit structure which was still under construction. There were no units completed or occupied at this time. The fire was reported by two people who were interviewed by officers. The residential units on either side of the structure on fire were evacuated for safety. There was a very large response from Seattle Fire Department. There have been recent fires reported at this same location in recent weeks. No suspects were identified at the scene, but this did appear to be a possible arson (Set Fire) according to the fire marshal. The investigation is still ongoing.
#2020-245354/South Precinct/Second Watch:
On 08-20-2020 at 1600 hours, officers assisted the King County Sheriff’s Office with a stabbing (machete) incident at Rainier/S Bayview. This incident began on a Metro coach and the suspect/victim was located at a bus shelter at the listed location with a serious wound to his torso. The other involved subject ran from the scene and was not located at the time of this incident. KCSO took over the primary investigation of this incident.
#2020-245415/South Precinct/Second Watch:
On 8-20-20 at 1706 hours, a two officer SPD patrol vehicle was responding to a priority one emergency call with lights and sirens in the 5900 block of East Marginal Way S. The SPD vehicle was traveling southbound and passing on the left when another vehicle also going southbound, turned left striking the passenger side of the patrol vehicle. All occupants are ok. No one was transported to the hospital. The roadway was block for 45 minutes.
#2020-244793/South Precinct/Third Watch:
On 8-20-2020 at 2313 hours, South Precinct personnel responded to a male in crisis at S. Massachusetts and Rainier Ave. S. Officers recognized the male as a suspect in a fire which occurred at the Safeway located in the 3800 block of Rainier Ave. S. earlier on 08-20-2020.
Arson Bomb Squad responded and interviewed the man, who was then transferred to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation.
#2020-245679/South Precinct/Third Watch:
On 8-20-2020 at 2349 hours, an SPD Arson Bomb Squad Detective was on his way to a callout. The Detective was driving NB on I-5 at MP 151 in an ABS Department Vehicle. A Kia Forte was traveling in front of SPD Vehicle and somehow crashed into the left barrier next to the HOV lane. The sedan came to rest (perpendicular to traffic) and blocking traffic. The Detective tried to swerve but wasn’t able to avoid the sedan and crashed into it. Airbags were deployed. After the collision, the Detective immediately requested medical aid for all four occupants of the sedan. South Pct Patrol, Valley Fire Department, and Washington State Patrol responded to assist. Two occupants had serious injuries and they were transported to Harborview Medical Center by Medic One. The other two occupants were transported by AMR. The ABS Detective was not injured but he was taken to Swedish ER (just as a precaution) by a South Pct Patrol Officer. WSP is investigating. Both vehicles were totaled.
#2020-245672/North Precinct/Third Watch:
On 8-20-2020 at 2330 hours, a man fired six rounds from a semi-automatic handgun as he traveled in the 10500 block of Roosevelt Way NE. A witness observed the suspect fire the last three rounds after he partially concealed himself behind a tree, looking upward, and pointing/firing the handgun at the sky. The suspect was last observed walking southbound from the scene, and an extensive area check met with negative results.
