Property Damage, Eleven Arrested During Anti-Police Demonstration

Eleven individuals were arrested Tuesday afternoon after what began as an anti-police rally/demonstration turned into property damage against businesses.

Shortly after 3 PM, a group of 20-30 individuals gather near Denny Park for an anti-police rally. The group moved north along 5th Avenue North and some in the group began committing property damage on businesses, including damaging windows and tagging businesses with spray paint. As officers attempted to arrest those responsible for the property damage, other people in the group attempted to intervene, and they in turn were taken into custody. Officers did deploy OC (pepper) spray on occasion while making the arrests.

Officers also recovered items such as bear mace, spray paint, a collapsible baton and a knife from the individuals arrested.

One person arrested complained of an injury and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The other arrested individuals were transported to the West Precinct and then later booked into the King County Jail for malicious mischief (felony property damage) and obstructing.
