Seven Arrested at Capitol Hill Demonstration

Update 11/5/20 4:10 PM

SPD Force Investigators have learned the subject’s medical episode was potentially related to a substance the subject had ingested prior to police contact. The subject was treated at the scene by a Seattle Police EMT, and was then treated by Seattle Fire Department medics prior to being transported to the hospital.

The subject did not sustain any physical injuries during the arrest, but continues to receive treatment at a local hospital.

SPD’s Force Investigation Team continues to investigate the incident, and the Department will release body worn video of the arrest according to department policy.

Seattle police arrested seven people during demonstrations on Capitol Hill Wednesday evening, including a 30-year-old, who was taken to Harborview Medical Center after experiencing a medical episode during an arrest.

Around 9:50 PM, officers were arresting the 30-year-old for property damage near 12th Avenue and Pine Street when the suspect appeared to be experiencing a medical issue.

EMT-trained officers, who were already on scene, provided medical aid to the 30-year-old and called for Seattle Fire. Seattle Fire transported them to Harborview Medical Center for further medical evaluation. As of this posting, they continue to receive treatment at Harborview. It remains unclear whether the medical issue was related to the arrest, but SPD’s Force Investigation Team is reviewing the incident.

In addition to the property damage arrest, officers made six arrests for obstruction, pedestrian interference, property damage, resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer. One man was also arrested in connection with two previous felony cases.
