#2020-322948/South Precinct/Third Watch:
On 11-18-2020 at 1600 hours, the manager of a large retailer in SODO reached out to SPD about their missing shopping carts. At the beginning of the year, the store had around 260 shopping carts. As of 11-18-2020, the store currently has around 40 shopping carts. Management had seen a lot of the carts gathered around homeless communities in SODO. At this current rate, the store will not have enough shopping carts to serve their customers. With South Precinct Command Staff approval, SPD Officers and the retailer worked together to fix the issue and were able to recover “within a couple of hours” many shopping carts, flat carts, and lumber carts (total value over $4000).
