Fremont Man Bitten By Prowler After Taking Keys to Getaway Van

Police are investigating after a Fremont man confronted a car prowler and took the suspect’s keys, leading the prowler to bite the victim and flee.

Shortly before 11:00pm Tuesday, a resident sitting on his porch in the 3600 block of Francis Avenue North saw someone breaking into his car. The victim confronted the suspect, who got into a nearby van and tried to drive away. The victim jumped in the passenger seat of the getaway van and snatched the keys from the ignition. The suspect then bit the man on his upper arm hard enough to break the skin, and then fled on foot, along with an accomplice that had also been in the van. Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect. He was described as a white male in his 30s, thin build, approximately 5’10” wearing dark clothing, with a black male accomplice also in his 30s, wearing jeans with a blue shirt and green coat.

Police towed the van and are investigating. The victim was treated at the scene by SFD.
