Police Arrest Man with Gun Near Seattle Center on New Year’s Eve

Police arrested a man after a witness said he pointed a gun at several people near the Space Needle early Friday morning.

Approximately 20 minutes into the new year, a 911 caller reported seeing a man point a gun at two women in a parking lot in the 300 block of Denny Way. When police arrived the suspect and the two women were gone, but a witness described the event to officers. The witness said after the women left, the suspect threatened multiple patrons in the nearby store and then departed in a vehicle.

Based on the witness’s descriptions, officers located the suspect and vehicle in the 2700 block of Alaskan Way. Officers took the suspect into custody without incident and recovered a handgun from the front pocket of his hooded sweatshirt. The 33-year-old man was arrested for felony harassment and was investigated for DUI. The suspect was booked into the King County Jail and the firearm was seized as evidence.
