Early Friday morning, officers located and arrested the 18-year-old suspect in a fatal hit and run, vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at the Montlake Bridge.
Just after 1:00 a.m., multiple 911 callers reported a man was in the roadway on the Montlake Bridge, swinging around an unknown object and obstructing traffic. Minutes later, callers reported the man had been hit by a car and now appeared unresponsive in the roadway. A passing citizen began CPR on the victim and officers took over when they arrived. Seattle Fire medics responded and also attempted life-saving measures, but the 23-year-old male was declared deceased at the scene.
Witnesses gave a description of the suspect vehicle and it was located several blocks north of the scene. Police contacted the owners of the car, and thereby learned the suspected driver was at a nearby address. The man was placed under arrest for felony hit and run and investigation of DUI and booked into the King County Jail.
Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded to the scene and will investigate for additional charges.
