On 01-07-2021 at 1257, a suspect stole a delivery vehicle near the intersection of 6 AV and Union ST. While the auto theft investigation was on-going at West Precinct, the suspect crashed the stolen vehicle at the 4000 block of NE 95 ST. After the crash, the suspect ran away from the scene on foot. Officers responded to the scene to investigate the hit-and-run collision and to search the area for the suspect. Additional victims and witnesses called 911 to report the suspect had broken into two separate private premises and stolen an expensive bicycle to aid in his escape. Officers were able to locate the suspect, still riding the freshly stolen bicycle, and arrest him. During the arrest, the suspect was uncooperative and actively resisted the arrest effort. Additionally, arresting officers found a gun tucked in the small of the suspect’s back during the arrest. Officers were able to secure the gun and the suspect without any injury to officers or the suspect. The realistic-looking gun was later determined to be a BB gun. Medical aid was summoned for the suspect due to his involvement in the collision and he was transported to the hospital. The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for felony possession of stolen vehicle and two counts of felony burglaries with request for additional misdemeanor charge of hit-and-run. The suspect also has an active DOC escape warrant.
