#2021-11270/South Precinct/First Watch:
On 01-14-2021 at 1039 hours, officers responded to a disturbance at the US Postal office Georgetown. A female who appeared to be suffering from a mental crisis and possible narcotics was inside the lobby demanding her Government Stimulus check at which time they advised her that they did not have one for her. She then began swinging a metal bat which she carried inside and was hitting the plastic COVID safety partitions and attempting to climb onto the counters which separate the staff from public. An employee then deployed a dog spray at the suspect which only made her more enraged. Officers arrived on scene and placed her into custody at which time she resisted, causing a Type I Use of Force. AMR was called to the scene and transported the woman to the King County Jail.
#2021-11556/South Precinct/Second Watch:
On 01-14-2021 at 1535 hours, there were multiple reports of a large number of shots fired near the 9200 block of Rainier Avenue South. Officers located the first scene in the library parking lot at 9125 Rainier Avenue South. Evidence of a shooting was recovered on the north side of the library. There was bullet damage to a sign, a light, and windows at the library. It appeared someone had returned fire from across Rainier Avenue South on South Fisher Place. There were no injuries. A couple of witnesses were interviewed at this scene. More evidence of a shooting was located in the 5100 block of South Fisher Place. There was also a report of a white vehicle driving out of the area at a high rate of speed near 46 Avenue South/South Fletcher. A community member waved at this vehicle to slow down, so the passenger of this vehicle exited the car and fired at the victim and his son. Evidence was recovered at this scene. The Gun Violence Response Unit responded to assist with the scenes and investigation. A detective contacted a witness who indicated there had been a shooter in the Jack in the Box parking lot. South Precinct officers responded back to the scene and located more evidence of a shooting in the parking lot at 9102 Rainier Avenue South.
#2021-011748/East Precinct/Third Watch:
On 01-14-2021 at 1947 hours, officers responded to a trespass turned robbery/assault at a restaurant in the 900 block of E Madison St. The victim, an employee at the restaurant, reported that the suspect assaulted her and stole her phone. This occurred after she asked the suspect’s girlfriend to leave for not wearing a mask and the victim escorted the female out. This prompted the suspect to follow the victim into the store, calling her a “Karen” and saying “I’m tired of you people” before punching her repeatedly, knocking her down, and taking her phone. The victim believed the comments were derogatory towards her race which prompted the assault. The suspect later turned himself in and was arrested for Investigation of Robbery and Investigation of Hate Crime.
