Police recovered approximately 40 shell casings but located no victims after a shooting in the Rainer Valley Thursday afternoon.
Just after 3:30 p.m., 911 callers reported hearing gunfire near the 9100 block of Rainier Avenue South. Police arrived and found shell casings and bullet damage at multiple locations including a broken window at the library.
After speaking with witnesses, police learned a group had apparently been shooting a music video on the roof of an abandoned building. At some point, another group gathered across the street near the Rainier Beach Library, and the two groups exchanged gunfire. Everyone involved then got into vehicles and quickly left.
While one of the involved parties was fleeing in a vehicle at a high rate of speed, a concerned citizen attempted to flag the driver down to tell him to slow down. The driver then fired a shot at the citizen and his friends, but thankfully no one was hit.
Officers searched for the driver, but were unable to locate him.
Detectives are investigating the incident.
